How far will you go to get your research right? Author Richard Gonzales has gone farther than most: as preparation for writing his novel Deer Dancer, he traveled to Sonora, Mexico to live among the Yaqui Indians. In this session, we’ll take you through the entire process of planning and executing the field research, from your very first Google search to planning a trip and making the most of your time in the field. We’ll also give special emphasis to forming relationships with people of a different culture, what you might still get wrong, and how to make sure your final draft is as real, respectful, and authentic as humanly possible.
Located within the Village Commons, this is the larger of the two stages here and is to the left of the Mead Hall.
