Join Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) as we celebrate the sounds of summer with an evening of music, fine food and celebration at The Corkscrew Saloon, 811 West Liberty, Medina. Chef Ryan will prepare an array of delicious heavy hors-d’oeuvres and desserts. Enjoy live music by Akron-based Joe Leaman, popular vocalist Helen Welch and folk musician Gretchen Pleuss. Try your luck at the wine raffle. Proceeds from the event benefit the music, arts and cultural outreach programs in area schools where funds are lacking or not available. $40 per person. Sounds of the Caribbean

Steel Drum, featuring Joe Leaman

Enjoy the tropical sounds of summer, performed on one of the most unique and soothing acoustic instruments - the steel drums! This performance is in celebration of ORMACO’s new steel drum program and will feature the instruments that will be used in school and community outreach programs for years to come. 

 

Joe Leaman is an in-demand musician, clinician, composer and arranger throughout Ohio. A graduate of the University of Akron, he enjoys an eclectic artistic schedule ranging from jazz and pop, to the avant garde. Joe’s recent projects include serving as Musical Director for Helen Welch’s critically acclaimed touring show “Superstar: The Songs, The Stories, The Carpenters” and also director of steel drum activities for ORMACO, a brand new adventure as of 2019.

 

Gretchen Pleuss

Folk Artist

Gretchen Pleuss is an Ohio-bred singer-songwriter whose "vocal delivery and skillful fingerpicking call to mind the folk singers who graced the stage of the Gaslight Café during the 60s Greenwich Village folk renaissance. Fans of Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, and other folk luminaries will appreciate Gretchen's gorgeous arrangements and thought-provoking songwriting." - Dan Jarvis, Midwest Action

To date, Gretchen has played at an array of venues throughout the United States, Canada, the UK, and Ireland and opened for prominent acts such as Lisa Loeb, Loudon Wainwright III, Chely Wright, Damien Jurado, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), and Bill Payne (Little Feat, the Doobie Brothers). Her discography includes three L.P.'s, including Daughter of the Broader Skies, which was produced by Jim Wirt and released in April 2019.

Helen Welch

Jazz Singer and Entertainer

 

Helen Welch is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, entertainer, producer and band-leader. Her unique talent for arranging songs to make them her own, coupled with her ability to intimately engage her audience, has quickly earned her a large and devoted following around the globe.

Helen has headlined with world-class organizations such as the BBC Big Band, Glenn Miller Europe, Opus One and others at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including: The Ritz, The Savoy, Blenheim Palace, The Grosvenor House Great Room, Claridges and many theatres in London’s West End. Additionally, she held starring roles in a variety of popular musicals including: Hello DollyBarnumCarousel42nd StreetCalamity Jane, and Oliver Twist.

After a very successful run in the U.K., Helen relocated to the United States to guest star in the Broadway musical Smokey Joe’s Cafe. Her immediate success landed her as a fronting vocalist for The Cleveland Orchestra, The Breckenridge Summer Orchestra, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The Grant Park Symphony Orchestra (Chicago), The Florida Symphony and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. Since that time, Helen has been producing her own shows for Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, The Akron Civic Theatre, The Chautauqua Institution and many other theatres and performing arts centers around the country.

In 2016, her musical release, "Spellbound" was an entry for the Traditional Pop Category of the Grammy Awards.
